The Wolf Ridge cow herd is made up of 5 distinct cow families, 4 of which have been in the herd since its inception in the early 70's. I have always focused on breeding and fine tuning a balanced herd unit rather than trying to produce that one superior individual that was right for what was popular at that time. Despite many generations of breeding for uniformity and balance, it is amazing how the families have been able to keep some of their defining characteristics over the years, and reinforces the adage of starting with quality as close to your ideal as possible.
